HOW TO GET A CPF IN BRAZIL : STEP BY STEP GUIDE

The CPF is what is it?

The CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) is a tax identification number (brazilian) issued by the "Receita Federal" (the tax administration Brazilian). It is indispensable for every person, brazilian or foreign, who wishes to conduct administrative procedures, tax or financial in the country.

Even for tourists, get a CPF can be useful for certain transactions, such as online shopping, book tickets for a bus or a plane, to buy tickets for events (football game, concert ...).

You will need to first fill out the online form on the official website of the "Receita Federal" tax in brazil.

After you have filled out this form, you will receive a "Ficha Cadastral de Pessoa Física" (FCPF) containing a processing code.

Then, the different options available to you :

From France : via e-consular

If you're in France, you can continue with the online application via the website e-consular.

You log on to the website e-consular, you will need to create an account if you haven't yet and you connect.

The following documents will be requested:

  • Proof of residence in France.
  • Registration form (FCPF) filled.
  • Passport.
  • Birth certificate (copy in full or in extract) with parentage apostilled.

Once your application is validated online, you can make an appointment at the brazilian consulate. At the appointment, present you with your documents and after verification your CPF will be issued.

From France or Brazil : by e-mail

Another solution is to make a request by sending an e-mail to the following address :

cpf.residente.exterior@rfb.gov.br

In the e-mail address (written in Portuguese), mention your contact information, make a short description of your request and add an address of residence in Brazil (you can use a friend's or a hotel).

You will need to attach to your e-mail the following documents :

  • The registration form (FCPF) filled.
  • The act of birth.
  • Passport.
  • Photo selfie of you holding your passport.

You will then receive an automatic e-mail confirming receipt of your application, followed by an e-mail containing your CPF number once it is approved.

This method is the most simple and also works well for France from Brazil.

From Brazil : in an office of the "Receita Federal"

If you are already in Brazil, you can also make your request CPF directly in an office of the " Receita Federal ".

You will first need to pay a fee of approximately 7R$ in the form of a tax stamp you purchased in a facility authorized (Correios, Banco do Brasil or Caixa Econômica Federal).

Then, you will need to present yourself in a “Unidade de Atendimento” of the “Receita Federal” with :

  • the registration form (FCPF) filled.
  • the proof of payment of the stamp tax.
  • your passport.

Once your documents are verified, your CPF will be sent to you a few days later by e-mail.
